Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that uses a range of hands on techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation as well as prescribing exercises to help treat the musculoskeletal system.
Osteopaths in Australia are registered with the Allied Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Osteopathy is a University degree encompassing Anatomy, Physiology, muscular skeletal diagnosis and Osteopathic treatment. As well as completing 1200 hours of supervised clinic practice before graduating (UK degree).
On your first visit we will take a thorough medical history discussing your current complaint as well as any previous relevant medical history to start to establish a working diagnosis.
Please wear or bring loose clothing that you feel comfortable to move in or gym clothing such as shorts, t-shirt or legging. Some disrobing may be required to perform the relevant physical examination.
Various physical testing (both orthopaedic and neurological) will be done to establish your range of motion and determine what movements may be limited. Once we have a working diagnosis we with discuss with you the best treatment plan for you.
Please bring any imaging reports or X-rays that you may have related to your area of concern to your appointment.
Your health insurance may cover Osteopathy. Please bring your health fund card with you as we can claim through HICAPS at the time of your appointment.

Rebates are available for Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) with a white or gold card. You will need a referral from your GP if claiming the DVA rebate.
You do not need a GP referral to see an Osteopath.
However, a referral from your GP or case manager will be needed if you intend to claim under Comcare, Workcover and Medicare AHMR plans.
